I was excited to hear that first strike had a rubber reusable first strike round that I could use for target practice. I received this small bag of rubber first strikes, created a makeshift target out of a cardboard box with an old pillow inside as to minimize damage to the delicate fins of the rubber first strikes. I then loaded up my MG100 with a Carmatech Nemisis rifled barrel and went to work.
My results follow were the following:
1. These are no where near as accurate as traditional first strike rounds. They were not awful but definitely not as accurate and there were a few that had a very strange tumble mid trajectory instead of the typical FS trajectory. (It looked very strange and they fell very short of the target)
2. The fins are the weak point. I found after shooting each round about 5-6 times it was bound a round would miss the soft target and crack the fins (I even had a few with cracked fins from hitting the cardboard box)
3. The rubber on the front tip made for some misfeeds. I had several dry fires because of the rounds rubber tip getting stuck in the mag and not feeding to the breech. Not a huge deal in target practice but not ideal.
Overall these aren’t a total waste, they allow me to target shoot my Mg100 and feel like I’m not using precious resources as FS rounds have been hard to come by. Just don’t expect these to have similar accuracy and results as paint filled FS.
